Open Door

Slowly creaking open,

Enter into a room,

Enter into my soul.

Uncertainty, fear, confusion,

At first.

You opened the door,

A vision of a new scene,

A new person,

Someone you encountered a mere moment ago.

An open door,

Open arms.

Share your world,

Share mine.

Open the door,

Creaking, slowly.

Together, open a new life.

Just open the door.

Daily Prompt: Complex

The Daily Prompt states: Tell us about the time you threw down the gauntlet and drew the proverbial line in the sand by giving someone an ultimatum. If you’ve never handed out an ultimatum but secretly wanted to, describe the scene and what you would say to put an end (one way or another) to an untenable situation.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us COMPLEX.

Understanding, you lack.

One moment happy, agreeable,

Mean and argumentative the next.

There are days you are a joy.

Others flee when your name spoken.

A bear to work with.

No discussion, simply argument.

Your way, or no way.

I cannot speak.

No more energy to argue.

Every moment is a battle.

Yet you remembered by birthday.

Simplicity is not used to describe you.

Life is not simple with you.

I keep you around, because I need to.

Untenable, it may be.

Daily Prompt: Legacy

The Daily Prompt states:  Imagine yourself at the end of your life. What sort of legacy will you leave? Describe the lasting effect you want to have on the world, after you’re gone.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us LEGACY.

In your thoughts, I am happy.

I brought you joyous occasions.

Children, mine, remain.

Peaceful, driven, successful in life,

They are.

Not money hungry,

Greed escapes them.

Giving of themselves,

My children do.

Reference to me,

My children do,

If that is legacy,

Then I am proud to have it.

Joyous memories created with family,

Friends and more.

Legacy is what you make it,

The memories of others.

My children carry on.

Daily Prompt: Work

The Daily Prompt states: If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us WORK.

Rising early in the morning,

The sun yet to wake.

Eat a breakfast,

Brew the nectar of life.

A shirt, tie, fancy shoes.

A uniform, a costume.

Off to the cubicle for eight,

nine, sometimes more hours.

Life is work, work is life.

A midday meal to energize the body.

Maybe I’ll change paths,

Drive truck.

Fix computers.

Oh to write a book in my pajamas.

The bank account grows,

Only for rapid depletion.

Bills, utilities.

Work to pay for a car,

Only to have to drive to work.

Vicious cycle.

Work is pride,

Work is necessary.

Evening come,

Slumber soon.

For tomorrow, I rise,

When the sun yet to wake.

Daily Prompt: Smitten

The Daily Prompt states: Remember your first crush? Think about that very first object of your affection. Oh, the sweaty palms. The swoony feeling in your stomach. Tell us the story of your first crush. What was it about this person that made your heart pound? Was the love requited? Change the names to protect the guilty or innocent if you must! No judgement here. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Photographers, artists, poets: show us SMITTEN.

My rhythm is off.

The beat of my heart skips.

My focus lost.

I can think of only one thing,

one thing only.

I’ve given up on concentration.

I can’t remember anything,

but the first time.

That first time I saw you.

I remember every detail,

Every quirk of your smile.

every flicker of light in your blue eyes.

Time passes, like sands over time.

I miss you.

I long for you.

I’m full of you.

But I am not filled.

Is this love?

It must be,

I hope it is.

I hope you share,

a similar feeling.

Oh the fear of you don’t.

A Valentine you are,

for me everyday.

All day.

I am smitten,

for you.

Nature Cometh

Clouds gather, staggering intensity.

People scramble, bread, milk, an egg.

Warnings and alerts scroll across screens.

Bosses warn employees.

School children wait with anxious excitement.

Nature is about to strike.

Snow, wind, ice.

The Mother of all reminds us once again,

she is  queen.

Technology only serves to warn us.

Nature cometh.
