The Daily Prompt states: Tell us about a time when you should have helped someone… but didn’t.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us DENIAL.
The truth be known, I should have said something.
I knew you were going to be hurt.
As a friend I should have said something.
It wasn’t my business, but since it was you,
it was my business.
I should have said something.
I thought by not telling you, I was being a good friend.
I convinced myself I was a very good friend.
Not telling you, was protecting you.
But in the back of my mind,
I knew you would be hurt.
Why did I not say anything?
I should have said something.
Maybe I’m not as a good a friend as I thought.
I’m in denial as to the truth about myself.
I should have said something.
My personal denial hurt you.
For that, I’m sorry.

Sad but lovely poem. I think most of us as friends have good intentions, it’s so hard to know when you’re being a good friend or potentially becoming one of those friends who is the constant bearer of bad news.
Well said. Thank you.

Beautiful poem.
I believe it will hurt twice harder if you wait until the last moment.
Thank you.
